Mark W. Haefner was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. After high school, Mark decided to attend the University of Missouri - Kansas City and get his Bachelor degree in Administration of Justice. Upon graduating from UMKC, Mark began working at Missouri 's Division of Family Services investigating child abuse and neglect. He later transferred to the Alternative Care unit, and worked with children in foster care. Mark's goal for each of foster child in his caseload was finding a home or plan for when the children reached the age of 18. He successfully had many children adopted, reunified with their parents, or ensured they had the skills for independent living. These permanency goals were solidified in court.
Mark grew frustrated with the lack of progress the court system, due in large part to certain attorneys not working as hard as he was to protect the children. He then decided to go to law school. Mark returned to the University of Missouri - Kansas City to attain his law degree. While there, he met many great friends and resources that shared his passion and frustration with the legal system.
After law school, Mark became an expert when dealing with legal issues involving children. Divorce, child custody, child support, protection from stalking/abuse, juvenile law, and paternity were just some of the daily problems that Mark's clients dealt with.
Mark finally decided to open Haefner Law Office, LLC after many years of practicing law. The mission of the firm is simple: work hard, play fair, and always do your best for the client. When families enter into the legal system, they need an advocate to protect and advise them. Mark does that everyday for his clients, and looks forward to helping others attain their goals during difficult times.
Mark belongs to many community organizations and volunteers with many charities, and is also a member of the Kansas Bar Association, the Missouri Bar Association, the Johnson County Bar Association, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, and belongs to the Family Law Section of the American Bar Association.
Mark accomplishments and abilities in the field of Family Law were recently recognized by Strathmore's Who's Who, a publication honoring successful individuals in the fields of Business, the Arts and Sciences, Law, Engineering and Government.
Mark also volunteers his time with some fine organizations making Kansas a better place to live.
Currently, Mark is working with SAFEHOME, a domestic violence shelter serving the Johnson County area. SAFEHOME continues to expand to meet the growing needs of victims of domestic violence in our community. In addition to a 10-week shelter program for women, services also include a specialized children's program at the shelter and outreach counseling services. Our firm was founded on the principles and mindset of protecting clients through their difficult times, but to never lose their moral values or ethics. All those employed at Haefner Law Office, LLC share this common goal.
We have worked very hard to establish our “tough but fair” reputation, and will continue to protect that reputation throughout your representation. If you want to use your children to punish your spouse for something they did wrong, then you really don’t want to hire us. However, if you are being denied what is fair due to your spouse punishing you, we are the right firm for you.
There is also one issue that I would like to discuss. Haefner Law Office will not represent sex offenders. We have experience in representing those that have been falsely accused in the past, and will continue to represent those people, but Haefner Law Office, LLC will not represent a client that we know is guilty of a sex crime.
This isn’t to say that these people don't need or deserve zealous representation, but we are not the firm for them. If you need a referral, we would be happy to give you some names of people that can help you.
Those employed at Haefner Law Office, LLC live by a certain set of rules. They can be summed up pretty easily: Do what is best for the client, treat everyone with respect and honesty, and be prompt in your responses.
We also agree that a simple question should be met with a simple answer. Whenever possible, we do not try to dress up our answers with legal-speak when a simple “yes” or “no” answers your question.
If you choose Haefner Law Office, LLC to represent you, know that our philosophy is that we work for YOU, and as our employer, you will be treated with the respect you deserve.
If you would like to know more about us, please feel free to call us at (913) 387-5519, or email Mark at mark@haefnerlaw.com.
